Team THQ UK is still tweeting from the grave

19 Feb

THQ UK twitter

You all know what happened to THQ. If you don’t, let’s sum up just saying that it went bankrupt, closing down and selling all its IPs and studios to other software house all around the world.

But we’re quite happy to see that something is still alive (kinda). Indeed, the THQ UK twitter account is still online, tweeting about stuff. They’re quite self-ironic, talking about themselves as a ghost team. Keep it up guys.

We don’t know until this thing will last, but if you want you can follow them here.

Wreck-It Ralph is awesome!

11 Feb

disney pixel logo wreck-it ralph

As you might have noticed, Wreck-It Ralph is finally out in UK.

Yup, we don’t know why, but basically we are the last country in the world to get the movie. Doesn’t matter, the only thing that really matters is that we went to a random VUE last weekend to watch it and…IT IS AMAZING!

Basically it’s the movie we all wanted! There’s everything and everyone in there, from epic video games quotes to forgotten characters from our childhood.

Like others recent Disney Pixar movies, Ralph is quite smart and not-only kids-oriented. Indeed this movie is hugely enjoyable from everyone, from the nostalgic Q*bert players to the next-gen newbies.

The movie was also very smartly advertised by Disney UK, giving us the #8BitLane in Brick Lane. And we loved it.

We don’t want to spoiler all the little gems from this masterpiece, so we can stop here, inviting you to watch it asap (just do it!).

In the meanwhile enjoy the latest trailer

PS: Remember to stay until the very end of end credits 😉

Giant Metal Gear Rising murals decorate three UK cities

7 Feb

Tired of all these Metal Gear Rising trailers? Yep, the new title from Platinum Games looks awesome and all, but Konami felt that its new masterpiece (we hope it will be, because Platinum guys are cool and talented) deserve some more hype…

That’s why EndOfTheLine, a company based in East London focused on producing huge murals and cutting edge installations, has been contacted by the Japanese software house to perform some graffiti about Raiden in three UK cities.

You can find these pieces of art in Ropewalks Square in Liverpool (where the above pics were taken), Sclater Street in London’s Shoreditch and Aire Street in Leeds. The artworks aren’t quite finished yet, but by tomorrow the should be.

EndOfTheLine guys are quite famous for this kind of campaigns, indeed they used to work within the video games industry quite a lot. Check their portfolio to see some of their best work to date.

This is the kind of advertisement we like!

**UPDATE (12 Feb 2013)**

Here’s the one in Leeds!

**UPDATE (19 Feb 2013)**

We’ve been to Shoreditch this eve, and now also the one in London is (almost) complete!

We know you love The Legend Of Zelda, we also know that you probably don’t speak a single word of Japanese (you ignorant!). Anyway we got great news for you! The long-waited HYRULE HISTORIA book is finally available in a language you can actually understand: English!

We should thank Dark Horse Comics for letting our dreams come true. Unfortunately Dark Horse is an American publisher, and there’s no plan for an European release. But don’t worry, you can buy it on Amazon (or thousands of other websites), and you can also find it or at your local Forbidden Planet (we checked this morning in the London store, and they got plenty of them. Picture below).

We hope you’ll enjoy your reading.

Death Inc. is the new Kickstarter project by Ambient Studios

4 Feb

Take control of the Grim Reaper in a freehand strategy game of plague, pestilence and profit, for PC and Mac.

Curious about the title? Good, because Death Inc. looks amazing! But first thing first…what is it?

Death Inc. is not your typical strategy game. It’s a unique mix of real-time strategy, god game and business sim, harking back to some of the classic Bullfrog games like Theme Park and Dungeon Keeper.

Simply paint your orders into the world and unleash your infected minions on serfs, wenches and noblemen. Every human that falls will join the ranks of your pestilential horde.

In between battles, build your business empire on the bones of your victims and strive to become the greatest Reaper the world has ever endured.

It’s time to show the artistic side of infection and paint your way to the ruination of mankind. And a bigger office.

Every unit in your horde has a primal instinct to attack anyone and anything not affected by the plague. People, cows, chickens… you direct it, they’ll infect it.

But beware! Humanity’s not going to go down without a fight. Your potential victims will defend themselves with sticks, swords, bows or muskets, even siege weapons; anything they can find.

But why we support this game? Because is made by Ambient Studios, that is a small (eleven employees) independent developer based in Guildford, UK, unexpected centre of the British games development universe (kind of). Founded in 2011 by ex-Media Molecule alumni (does Little Big Planet ring any bell?). And trust us, there guys are good.

But they are indie, and guess what, they need money (£300k) to make games! So, if you feel that Death Inc. could be your next addiction feel free to help them on Kickstarter. They’re planning to finish the game before October 2013.
