This thursday the 3DS eShop will finally be hit with 3D classics from SEGA, including arcade masterpiece Space Harrier.

The game is obviously published by SEGA, but the actual port of the old arcade game (alongside with all the other SEGA classics for the Nintendo 3DS) is made by developer M2, that started in the industry many years ago and it’s responsible for the SEGA AGES compilations on Saturn, and eventually, on PlayStation 2 and Wii Virtual Console.

You’ve probably missed the release of The Typing Of The Dead: Overkill

4 Nov

the typing of the dead overkill

You didn’t? Well good for you. You did, don’t worry, that’s our job. Anyway, even if SEGA didn’t make much fuss about it (they’re probably too busy with Rome II and Football Manager), they found the time to release the sequel of one of the best, most fun, over the top, finger-breaker, completely weird game ever made: The Typing Of The Dead. Anyone fancy a little type-instead-of-shoot some zombies?

The original title was released in 1999 for japanese arcades, and then worldwide on Dreamcast, PC and PlayStation 2. It was based on the second chapter of the main series, and was a masterpiece.

This one, as the title surely suggest, is based on the latest installement of the series, Overkill, and features a lot of funny shit (and swearing).

The Typing Of The Dead: Overkill is out now on Steam for less than £15. Just go for it, thanks us later.

Atlus president comments on SEGA takeover

19 Sep

atlus sega

Yesterday we reported the big news about SEGA purchasing ATLUS after its recent bankrupt. Today Naoto Hiraoka, President and CEO of ATLUS, comment on the news with a press release. Here’s the full version:

Dear fans and customers,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your support of ATLUS products.

As announced Tuesday through various news channels, we are going to continue with our business operations as part of SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS effective November 1, 2013.

As you may already know, Index Corporation filed for Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings in Japan on June 27 and since then, has been searching for a solution which would allow us to continue our business of making great games.

ATLUS has consistently received support and praise from our Faithful and our respected customers, and made great progress in recent years. So the recent incident must have surprised and worried all of you dearly. For that, I would like to express my deepest apologies.

We have nurtured a great relationship with SEGA Inc. for a long time, especially concerning our consumer games business in Japan. I believe the collaboration between the two companies at this time will be mutually beneficial for the following reasons:

Sega understands our drive to achieve quality and to expand awareness of the ATLUS brand.

Our respective strengths in game development complement each other well.

We are extremely happy to be able to continue with our business, and be able to report this good news to our fans and customers. Again, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported us.

Currently, we at the Consumer Software Division in Japan are focusing on developing future titles, and are willing to take on new challenges to further achieve growth and success.

Please stay tuned for future updates.

Get ready for Bayonetta anime!

19 Sep

bayonetta bloody fate anime

Good news nerds! Your favourite fictional witch is becoming an anime, and she’s hotter than ever!

Announced today by SEGA and Bayonetta Film Club, the full-lenght movie dubbed Bayonetta Bloody Fate, will hit only ten selected theaters across Japan on November 23 just for a limited two-week run.

Info are scattering through the internet, but for now we’re able to confirm that Bayonetta will be voice-acted by Atsuko Tanaka, that has quite a lot of geek experience in the field, and that the anime is made by the well-know Studio Gonzo.

Let’s hope to put our hands on this as soon as possible. But for now, enjoy the first trailer.

Atlus now belongs to SEGA

18 Sep

sega atlusYou surely heard about the bankrupt of Index Corporation, owner of well know game developer Atlus, from last June. Till now the future of Persona developer has been uncertain, and players from all around the world worried about its acclaimed IPs.

Till now, because today SEGA-SAMMY Holding Inc. has concluded a business transfer agreement with Index Corporation for the purpose of revitalization of the business. Basically, SEGA just bought Atlus and all its IPs.

These are the reasons for SEGA to put its hands on the Japanese developer: to gain access to prominent IPs in the home video game software, through which the Company can expect to achieve steady flows of revenue; to help revenue growth for the PC Online Game Business and Content Business for Smart Devices operated by SEGA and SEGA Networks Co., Ltd. by exploiting acquired prominent IPs and to maximize the value of acquired IPs by effectively deploying them in the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines segment, Amusement Machine Sales and Amusement Center Operations segments.

Let’s just hope to still get all the finest Atlus’ games localised, and not just splashed inside boring pachinko slots.

The tentative due date of the acquisition is currently set for November 1, 2013. Bloomberg reported that the acquisition may be valued at about 14 billion yen ($141 million).

Here’s the full press release.

REZtron hoxton pony london

We didn’t have quite the chance to talk about this brand new geek event in London yet. But now the time has come, and we’re glad to inform you that tonight a new REZtron night is going to rock East London.

What is it exactly? We’ve been there at the very first event, but we prefer to use their very own word to describe it. So basically, REZtron is a Pop Up Japanese Retrotainment brand inspired by the fusion of 80’s chic, Japanese ethics and retrogaming.

New Alien game from SEGA: try harder!

10 Sep

alien

We know most of you reading this title will think “oh come on… again??”, but hey, yes! According to some picture posted on twitter, Creative Assembly is (or was, we don’t know) hiring for their new title based on the Alien franchise.

Looks like, despite the flop of Aliens: Colonial Marines, SEGA is not giving up with the IP. We just hope this time the choice to give it to the developer behind the Total War franchise will be a good one. Gearbox was clearly too busy with Borderlands 2 to concentrate on Aliens, but Rome 2 is (kinda) done and already released, giving CA all the time to develop a good game.

You can make it… right?

9 Sep

yakuza ishinSEGA has recently announced a new Yakuza spinoff, and from yesterday’s PlayStation 4 Tokyo conference we are now able to tell you that Yakuza Ishin will be a PS4 launch title, for Japan only.

The game will be released in Japan on February 22 for both PS3 and PS4, but an international release is quite unlikely, for several reasons. By the way, here’s the new trailer, aired during the event.
