10 Sep

amnesia a machine for pigs

This is not a review, nor a news. This is a CHALLENGE. We hate the guys at Frictional Games for making us jump on the chair, cover our eyes and invade our nightmares, because they are simply too good at scare us to death. But we can’t just stop playing their games.

After Penumbra and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, we are finally ready to play Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (this time developed by The Chinese Room), so stay tuned for an upcoming scary review!

Hot Tin Roof is the new 3D noir cat-filled game from Glass Bottom

26 Aug

hot tin roof

Do you remember Glass Bottom Games? The guys (actually more gals) that made Jones on Fire? Well, they’re back, and this time to bring us  Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore A Fedora. It’s a noir 3D side-scrolling platformer (currently) for PC, Mac and Linux where players have to explore and uncover clues, with the usual bit of cats here and there.

You’re Emma Jones, a two bit girl in an 8-bit world, and you’re the private investigator on a string of grisly murders.  You’ll run, jump and climb through a massive 3D city, sleuthing up clues and tracking down the killer. Enjoy the trailer.

We had the luck to try a beta version in advance (but ssshh, that’s a secret!) and it looks gorgeous! Definitely something we want to see finished! You all be able to try it too at next PAX.

Hot Tin Roof is currently on Kickstarter (throw them some money here) and on Steam Greenlight (vote it here).

Still uncertain if backing the game or not? Here are some features you might want consider:

    • Noir as fuck.
    • Tons of platforming and exploring, hunting for clues.
    • Cats, but not JUST cats. Pigeons too, and rats!
    • Metroidvania-esque – just more of the Metroid, less of the vania.

That’s all, we can just hope all the luck to Glass Bottom Games for their new project, hoping it’ll be able to see the light of day.

Here’s your über zombie apocalypse! Served by Capcom and Valve

15 Mar

resident evil 6 x left 4 dead 2

Zombie fan? Good, because Capcom and Valve teamed up for a free Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 Crossover.

But what is about? Here’s the press release:

Capcom and Valve are pleased to announce the Resident Evil® 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 project. This crossover project between two of the interactive entertainment industry’s most respected publishers will see characters from Left 4 Dead™ 2 featured exclusively in the forthcoming PC version of Resident Evil® 6, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will invade the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2. All content will be made available completely free for fans of either game to access and play.

Owners of Resident Evil 6 PC will be able to select one of four survivors from Left 4 Dead 2’s iconic cast – Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle – when playing PC exclusive mode, The Mercenaries No Mercy. Each character will have a special customized weapon load-out created just for use in Resident Evil 6. In addition to the four survivors, two of the infamous Special Infected zombies from the Left 4 Dead franchise – the Witch and Mini Tank – will also make a cameo appearance in this mode, relentlessly attacking players regardless of whether a character from Left 4 Dead 2 or Resident Evil 6 is chosen. This new and exclusive content will automatically be downloaded in the background to all owners of the PC version of Resident Evil 6 from April 5.

Making the leap to the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be some of Resident Evil 6’s most fearsome enemies – Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman. All three characters were brought to life in Left 4 Dead 2 by Valve’s renowned developers using its Steam Workshop tools. Owners of the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be able to face a new deadly challenge when Resident Evil 6 characters infect Valve’s classic zombie title this spring.

Commenting on the crossover project, Chet Faliszek from Valve stated: “We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine L4D2 and RE6, we jumped at it.”

Resident Evil 6 Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi added: “The Resident Evil 6 team really enjoyed working on this crossover, and we’re confident that our fans will have a great time with it too! We hope you enjoy this unique content.”

And here’s the dev diary from Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.

We were hoping for something way more exciting, but still, this is kinda cool anyway. But what about all the console players? Both games are either on PC and consoles!

This is how the Dreamcast would look like in HD 1080p

dreamcast hd 1080p full

A couple of days ago DREAMCASTER’s Tube uploaded a very interesting video on their YouTube channel. Indeed the video shows how the Dreamcast would look like in HD 1080p.

Obviously this definition has been reached through an emulator and not the real console. But still, some games are really amazing and the details are astonishing! Enjoy!

Valve’s Steam Box is on its way

6 Mar

valve steam box gabe newell console

In an interview with the BBC, Gabe Newell, founder of Valve, said that the new Steam Box console is on its way and that the first prototypes could hit the users for test in 3/4 months. Read below directly from Newell’s words.

“We’re working with partners trying to nail down exactly how fast we can make it. We’ll be giving out some prototypes to customers to get their reactions, I guess, in the next three to four months. Your average gamer has a good idea of what it’d be like. It sort of has the openness and flexibility of PC, yet done in a way that makes it make sense in the living room. There are noise issues and heat issues and being able to deal with that while still offering a powerful enough gaming experience is the challenge in building it.

The main thing that’s holding us up is that we have a couple of different controller prototypes that we’re using, and that’s one of the things we’ll be giving to customers. We’ll just give them a couple different ones and then look to see what the difference is in their play patterns when they have those different controllers. If you think of a game like Left 4 Dead ,which is trying to put you into a sort of horror movie, you and your friends in a horror movie, if you don’t change the experience of what the player is actually feeling then it stops being a horror game and starts being something else. So you need to actually be able to directly measure how aroused the player is — what their heart rate is, things like that — in order to continue to offer them a new experience each time they play.”

The world needs this indie riot simulator!

3 Mar

riot ios game italy logo

“As the economical crisis advances, the discontent of an entire population cannot help but outburst in Riots, where the sounds of many voices get heard at once.”

This is how Leonard Menchiari, former Editor/Cinematographer at Valve, commences his speech on the Indiegogo project. Indeed, RIOT is a turmoil simulator for PC, Mac, iOS, Android and OUYA seeking funding on the famous indie kickstarter-like site. The game will allow you to play as both manifestant and cop, to understand the riot though different points of view.

It seems like the guys behind the project are taking the mission very seriously declaring:

“The funding for the game will enable the developers to travel, document and experience live riots going on in Italy, Greece, Egypt and possibly many other places around the world (next to developing the game, buying software and hardware for development and testing).
Only comments and reports from the people joining the conflicts will be taken into consideration, attempting to depict both sides of the fight without bias, only objectivity and facts. We need you to spread the voice on an important issue through the medium of videogames. Stop listening to the lies of the media, shut down the television and get yourself in the line, to fight for your freedom of speech.

So, this is not just an entertaining light-heart game, but it comes with more deep and serious meanings. Check out the trailer

It looks like a very interesting project, and if you agree with us help this guys make it real on their Indiegogo page (the project is already funded, but you know, every penny counts) and/or voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.

Keep yourselft updated on their official website.

SEGA partners with Enterbrain to release some cool laptops

12 Feb

sega pc

We all want a new SEGA console, maybe a Dreamcast 2, but you know, this is never gonna happen.

Instead of realize our dreams (and most likely bankrupt for real this time), SEGA decided to collaborate with Enterbrain, a Japanese PC retailer, to create a new laptop series. These PCs, called SEGA NOTE PC, will feature a choice of four lid finishes: SEGA blue, SEGA Mega Drive, SEGA Saturn and SEGA Dreamcast; and they all look pretty awesome.

sega pc note

These SEGA NOTE PCs will be available in four different models, from entry-level to top-level, and the most powerful (and expensive) will feature all the four retro-covers. Here are the specs and prices.

sega pc note

Now the bad news (beside the not-so-cheap price range from ¥99,750/£682/€793/$1068 to ¥194,250/£1329/€1546/$2080). These PCs will be produced only if  a certain number (yup, we know it’s a little vague) of preorder is  reached. Uh, did we mention that an European/Northamerican release is never ever gonna happen?

If you’re still interested (and if you the mysterious Japanese language), check out the official site.

Huge Alien egg appears in London

12 Feb

Tomorrow, or better today (as it’s 1am while we’re writing this) it’s the release date for the highly anticipated (and delayed) Aliens: Colonial Marines.

We are pretty much fans of the Alien’s universe, but we don’t know if this upcoming Gearbox and SEGA‘s game could meet our expectations. We’ll see.

Anyway, SEGA had found a very cool way to promote its new title. Basically they’ve put a gigantic Alien egg just in front of the London’s Tower Bridge, and when we say gigantic, we mean like 6 meters tall…IT IS FUCKING HUGE!

The installation is completely open to the public, so if you live in London it may worth a closer look (hurry up, as we don’t know how long it’ll last).

just can't be unseen!

It just can’t be unseen!

Let's save the universe. Again.

Let’s save the universe. Again.

Well done SEGA! We like this kind of advertisements!

Now you can use the Wii U Controller on PC games

5 Feb

We always love people making an improper use of licensed hardware, especially when it’s not about cracking or piracy, but just opening a new world of possibilities. And this is the case of this guy, Chris Manning, transforming the Wii U game pad into something you can use on a PC.

This video also shows how you can re-map the pad in order to make it works with lot of stuff on your PC, like DirectInput games and emulators (including Dolphin and most Steam games).

We know that you’re wondering about the touchscreen and all the cool stuff you’d like to do with it on your PC. Chris also said that a touchscreen support in on the work, and you’ll be able to use the pad as a graphical tablet or similar stuff very soon.

For now, you can download all the stuff you need to make it works here.

Keep it up Chris (and watch your back from Nintendo)
