Zone of the Enders HD is finally in proper HD (but just on PS3)

ZOE HD

When Zone of the Enders HD collection came out it was everything but a proper HD. In fact, even Kojima complained about the poor improvements made on his games, promising a new version soon. Well, they didn’t make a bran new version, instead Konami gave the game to japanese developer Hexa Drive, that patched the game in true HD. Below you can find some comparisons between the game before the patch and after.

A bug makes gay marriage available in a Nintendo game

8 May

Tomodachi Collection gay marriage

Nintendo has recently released Tomodachi Collection for the 3DS. But it’s quite likely you’ve never heard about it before. In fact, Tomodachi Collection is some sort of life simulator using Miis, let’s say a mix between The Sims and Animal Crossing, never released outside the Japan.

The news is not in the release itself, but in the fact that japanese gamers started to post some images from the game (like from the mosaic above) rumoring about a bug of some sort that allows players to celebrate gay marriage (but just between two men).

This rumor is becoming quite a trend among japanese players, but Nintendo has not said anything yet about this bug, even if a player reported that, after contacting the customer service, they told him that the game seems to be broken, and it needs to be patched.

The awesome thing about all this is that new players are thinking about buying the game just because of this gay-friendly bug. Think about it Nintendo.

Our suggestion? Nintendo should patch it, in order to make it official and extend the feature to female characters as well!

Not enough video games with female protagonists? Check those hacks

Mike Mika has a three year old daughter and they play a lot of old games together. Mike’s daughter favorite is Donkey Kong.

Some days ago, she asked him if she could play as the girl and save Mario. She’s played as Princess Toadstool in Super Mario Bros. 2 and naturally just assumed she could do the same in Donkey Kong. The good Mike told her she couldn’t in that particular Mario game, she seemed really bummed out by that. So what else is a good father supposed to do? Mike decided to hack the ROM, replacing Mario with Pauline. He used the 2010 NES Donkey Kong ROM. He has redrawn Mario’s frames and he swapped the palettes in the ROM. He also replaced the M at the top with a P for Pauline.

Now, the little girl can play as Pauline in her unique Donkey Kong: Pauline Edition!

Here’s the DK Pauline patch for download.

This is what Mike Mika told to Wired in a recent interview:

“She was excited! But for all she knew, I just figured out how to get Pauline to work. And that was fine. I wasn’t expecting it to change her life. We played for a bit. And some more. And again later. You know what? She really did seem to enjoy the game more. For whatever reason, she was more motivated to play as Pauline than as Mario. I can’t read into that too much, because it does feel a bit like a new game to her still. So we’ll see how she does after a week with it.”

But this isn’t all folks. Inspired by Mike Mika’s hack, professional animator Kenna W. decided to hack The Legend Of Zelda, in order to make Zelda the main character!

She changed the sprites for the ROM of the decades-old, 8-bit NES game so that Princess Zelda was the hero of the story, playable through the campaign, instead of just being the titular character of the series, and obviously save the poor Link.

“I wished I had someone who could have done that for me. Then I remembered. I’m an adult now. If he could work it out, I could too,”

Enjoy you version of The Legend Of Zelda starring…Zelda!
