New Alien game from SEGA: try harder!

10 Sep

We know most of you reading this title will think “oh come on… again??”, but hey, yes! According to some picture posted on twitter, Creative Assembly is (or was, we don’t know) hiring for their new title based on the Alien franchise.

Looks like, despite the flop of Aliens: Colonial Marines, SEGA is not giving up with the IP. We just hope this time the choice to give it to the developer behind the Total War franchise will be a good one. Gearbox was clearly too busy with Borderlands 2 to concentrate on Aliens, but Rome 2 is (kinda) done and already released, giving CA all the time to develop a good game.

You can make it… right?

Nop, now we’re not talking about Killer is Dead anymore. This is beyond that!

Do you remember the news about Grasshopper Manufacture being acquired by GungHo Online Entertainment? Good, this will their first project together!

Goichi Suda spoke to Weekly Famitsu about it, and here we go!

“The game will obviously have Grasshopper Manufacture’s signature forte of hack and slash action at its base, but we hope to incorporate GungHo’s power and know-how in areas we don’t have.”

We don’t really know much about the game, but both Suda51 and Kazuki Morishita (GungHo bossman) confirmed that the protagonist will be a female (thankfully they don’t give a fuck about publishers), that the game won’t be on smarthphones and/or tablets (thanks x2) and that the plot will be set in some asian environment. While the title, the release timing and the platforms remain unknown. Stay tuned!

Check out the reveal trailer.

This looks super cool and we want to play it now. Unfortunately the release date has not been set yet:

“We expect Transistor to be released in early 2014. We have not yet decided on which platform or platforms the game will be available for.”

But if this weekend you’re in Boston, you can always spend a day at PAX East and say “hi” to Supergiant Games guys at booth #892 where they’ll have a playable early build of the game.

Enjoy J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell talking together at DICE 2013

13 Feb

We’ve already told you about J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell to collaborate on new games and/or movies here. But you probably want to watch the entire video from that little (20 minutes) talk between the two at D.I.C.E. 2013. So here it is

When universes collide: J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell to collaborate

Yup, it’s not an hoax. Two of the worst psychopaths (read it in a good way) out there are teaming up. Indeed Bad Robots, J.J. Abrams‘ production company, and Valve, Gabe Newell‘s software house, are planning to collaborate on a new game and probably also on Half Life and/or Portal movies.

This news comes from the stage of D.I.C.E. 2013, where the two had a public conversation in front of hundreds of developers and press people.

Abrams also said that the game he’s in talks with Valve about making will be completely new, with no links to existing Valve or Bad Robot properties. Sorry, we won’t have any Half Life 3 any soon (Newell can’t count to three, you know the joke).

The reason? This is what Abrams said:

“The conversation about what story is in movies, what story is in gaming, the mechanics of story, what makes the experience of a game sometimes more satisfying than a film and vice versa, these are just sort of discussions we’ve had for years. We’ve had so many meetings and finally got to a point where we said, ‘We need to start making stuff.’

And so the ideas that we’ve had for games, the ideas they’ve had for turning Portal and Half-Life into a film, we just decided we actually have to start doing this stuff.”

We are quite excited about this collaboration, they’re both talented (and weird). We are really looking forward to see what’s next.
