killer is dead

As you know Killer is Dead will be released in Japan in just about 5 days (we have to wait till the end of August here in Europe) and the hype train is running like hell! So, to make the wait even more painful, here a couple of new trailers of the upcoming Suda 51 game!

As usual, with the trailers, Kadokawa has released some new KID TV videos, with lots of boobs, Jessica Nigri and other interesting stuff. You can find them here.

We are at the edge of a new generation of console and in the middle of a proper brand new old-school console war, but still, we can use our fingers to count the title that really amaze us. So for now we’ll stick to the current gen, where we still have something able to sky-rocket our hype meter.

We are obviously talking about Killer is Dead, mainly because we are in love with its creator, the video games god Goichi Suda.

So in the middle of the post-E3 storm (or shitstorm) we are pleased to show you the latest trailer for the upcoming X360 and Ps3 title from Grasshopper Manufacture. Enjoy!

And why not? Also a new KID TV episode is out, featuring some boobs as usual (including Jessica Nigri‘s). We still don’t know what they’re talking about, but…who really cares?

Hyped for the upcoming new game from Suda51? Good! Ready for a shitload of boobs (both virtual and real)? Nice, because a new trailer (the third one) for Killer is Dead is out and it’s all about Mondo’s girls. Enjoy.

Ok, they look pretty amazing (obviously we’re talking about graphics and animations). Now, are you ready for some real boobs? Below you can find the first two videos of the new-born KID TV (KID stands for Killer is Dead), featuring the always gorgeous Jessica “Lollipop Chainsaw’s Juliet” Nigri and other wonderful Japanese babes dressed like female characters from the game. Yep, there is also Goichi Suda (probably) talking about the game, but as we can’t speak japanese, that part of the video wasn’t really appealing for us.

Happy now? Good, said so, we can just hope to get a US/European release date as soon as possible, remembering that the game will be out this Summer.

New trailer and tons of screenshots for Killer is Dead

2 Apr

After the recent interview during the GDC, Goichi Suda went back to his home country (that for those who don’t know, is Japan) and apparently paid a visit to Famitsu with the above new trailer and below pictures.

We’re just speechless! This trailer squirts epicness from the first second to the last one! We just want more Suda51. NOW!

And also enjoy tons of new screenshots.

Suda51 talks about Killer is Dead

28 Mar

During this week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco XSEED Games (publisher for the NA region) and Grasshopper Manufacture’s Suda51 showed to the press Killer is Dead. But beside some super secret in-game footage, Suda51 talked to Destructoid about the game and how it is deeply influenced by his previous works.

ON THE NAME KILLER IS DEAD

“I’m a fan of The Smiths, the band, and they have a song called “The Queen Is Dead”. This was just a tentative title and I just switched out the Queen with Killer. There was talk that let’s change the title to something else as it was sort of vague that it really doesn’t describe anything. And then grammatically it might be incorrect, but I thought it gave more uniqueness that really matched what the gameplay was about so we decided to leave it.”

ON THE SOUNDTRACK

“In the very beginning I explained what the concept of this game is about and what I’m trying to do within the game. After that we came up with a few ideas of what to do, and did some idea exchanges. But other than that I just threw the whole thing at Akira Yamaoka. At this time he’s still working in the Tokyo office, still chugging away.”

ON THE FLOWER, SUN AND RAIN CONNECTION

“There is some kind of similarity because Sumio Mondo was wearing a suit as well, and I just like that character. I don’t know, they just look similar. And then I liked the name Mondo so I decided to make him in a more action game this time. Originally I was thinking about Mondo Smith, but it’s a little close to Sumio Mondo so we decided to change it.”

ON THE VISUALS MATCHING PROJECT HEROES

“I’m surprised you’d remember that, I sort of forgot! That was something that I really liked, and I wanted to put that in a HD format and I think in Killer Is Dead I was able to achieve that.”

ON THE JAMES BOND INSPIRATION

“For this title, there isn’t specifically a Bond movie, it was just that 007 as a series. He’s a British agent that goes into different places, different countries to solve something. That was the backbone of how we created this.”

ON THE INFLUENCE FROM KILLER 7

“I wasn’t really specifically thinking about Killer 7 when I was doing [Killer is Dead], but I think it’s just a compilation of all the stuff that I was creating. This theme of executioner and the Killer 7 kind of matches. There’s a lot of stuff that I’m utilizing from the back catalog, and ideas that I had. Nothing really specific that connects those two together.”

Said so, we can add that we really can’t wait to put our hands on this game! Also there’s a new trailer of Killer is Dead with English voiceovers, but remember that Deep Silver announced that the European version of the game will have both the original Japanese audio and the translated one (for each country).

European trailer for Killer is Dead

8 Mar

We’ve already told you that Deep Silver will bring Killer is Dead to Europe (and XSEED to USA), and few days ago, finally something has moved. The german company released a series of trailer on YouTube, subbed in all the European languages. You can enjoy the English version below, but you can find all other languages on Deep Silver YouTube Channel.

We also remember that Deep Silver decided to put both Japanese and MULTI5 (en, fr, it, ger, spa) audio in the European version of the game, and we really appreciate this fan-driven choice.

Killer is Dead will be released worldwide on Summer 2013 on a TBA date.

European version of Killer is Dead will have both English and Japanese audio

1 Feb

KILLER is DEAD seems to be an hot topic these days, and we are all pretty excited about it.

After all the news about who will publish the next Suda51 work in North America and Europe we are happy to share with you a tweet sent yesterday night by Deep Silver (Killer is Dead european publisher).

So it seems we will be able to enjoy the game (also) with its original Japanese dubbing, and this is and awesome news! Thanks Deep Silver to think about gamers 😉

(Still no info about the topic for the NA release from Xseed)

Deep Silver to bring Killer is Dead to Europe and Oceania

As you MIGHT have noticed, here at THAT DAMN PIXEL we are quite fond of Suda51 and his games, so shortly after the last news about Xseed publishing Killer is Dead (and other Japanese games) in North America we went nosy on who is publishing the game in Europe (as we are based in London). Here we go!

KADOKAWA GAMES, Grasshopper’s partner in developing the new game, announced a partnership with Deep Silver, the game label of Koch Media, a leading producer and distributor of digital entertainment products based in Munich, to publish Killer is Dead in Europe and Oceania.

We are really excited about this new Suda’s work and it could easily turn into a GOTY for 2013. Until we get a release date, just kill the waiting with the official trailer.

Xseed Games is bringing five new Japanese titles outside Japan in 2013

31 Jan

Who are these guys and why we should thank them?

Well, Xseed Games is a small (and when I say small, I mean really small, like 9 people) video games publisher and distributor based in Torrance, California; and we should thank them because their only purpose is to bring weird, strange and beautiful Japanese games to the North American market (and eventually let them know to European publishers).

Xseed Games HQ. You just met half of the employees.

Xseed Games HQ. You just met half of the employees.

We really appreciate them (and everybody should do), because unlike the bigger guys (someone said Activision, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft?) they don’t really care about money. They’re happy to just focus on eccentric (and mostly weird, but always amazing) Japanese games, from dating simulations to j-RPGs.

You should thank them for being able to play titles such as KORG DS-10 (NDS, 2008), Ys Seven (PSP, 2010) or The Last Story (2012, Wii) localized in your language. But this is not all. In a press release this morning, Xseed Games announced that it’s bringing five new games outside Japan: Killer Is Dead (yep, new game from Suda51)(X360 / PS3, Summer 2013), Rune Factory 4 (3SD, Summer 2013), Valhalla Knights 3 (PSVita, Fall 2013), Ys Celceta (PSVita, Fall 2013), and Ys I & II Chronicles (Steam, February 2013).

We leave you with trailers about those new upcoming games. Enjoy, and be respectful to Xseed.

This last one about Ys I & II is from the PSP version, because there’s not Steam version trailer out there.

Suda51’s Grasshopper Manufacture joins GungHo Group

30 Jan

Here we go folks! This blog starts with a post about our beloved Suda51 and his Grasshopper Manufacture and I can’t imagine a better subject for a bombshell start!

But first thing first, on February 1, 2013, Grasshopper Manufacture will join GungHo Group, both companies have announced earlier this morning. Is this a good or a bad news? Let’s find out!

GungHo CEO Kazuki Morishita and Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda

Grasshopper Manufacture is a critically acclaimed software house based in Tokyo, founded by Goichi Suda in 1998, best known for video games masterpieces such as Killer 7 (GCN / PS2, 2005), No More Heroes (Wii, 2008), Lollipop Chainsaw (X360 / PS3, 2012) and the upcoming Killer Is Dead (X360 /PS3, 2013). The company, and particularly his CEO and head designer Suda51, is noted for its original and imaginative titles, ones that are also fraught with financial risk. Anyway, if you don’t know it, probably you’re reading the wrong blog (just saying).

On the other side, GungHo Online Entertainment is a leading Japanese company specialized in online game services, primarily known for hosting the Japanese server of Ragnarok Online (PC, 2001), as well as their development of Ragnarok DS (NDS, 2008).

“GungHo is fusing the planning and development power of Grasshopper Manufacture with the power of managing online games cultivated by both companies to produce higher quality content.” said GungHo CEO Kazuki Morishita on his official announcement.

On the other hand, Suda51 had been more concise (as usual) just dropping a status update on his Facebook “I’d like to inform you that as of Feb 1, 2013, Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. will be joining GungHo Group.”

Both parts invite readers to take a look at the interview made by 4Gamer.net for further details, but it’s in Japanese…so just trust us 😀

At THAT DAMN PIXEL we love Suda’s games and we don’t know if this partnership (well, more an acquisition than a partnership) is driven by any financial problems (Grasshopper doesn’t always make amazing sales outside Japan) or something else, but as long as Goichi keeps doing great, creative, crazy (weird?) and awesome games we don’t really mind.
