Another Nintendo World Championships 1990 Gray Cartridge found!

4 May

NES nwc GREY CARTRIDGE

Hey collectors! We got a big good news for you today! Seems like another super-rare NWC (Nintendo World Championship) gray cartridge has been found!

Maybe if your not really into collecting stuff, you could ask “what is it?”. Well, the Nintendo World Championships was a 1990 Nintendo-promoted video game competition that toured twenty-nine cities across the United States and for the competition, 116 special game cartridges were manufactured. 90 of these copies exist as the official gray cartridge and were given out to finalists after the championships concluded. The other 26 are gold and were given out as prizes in a separate contest held by Nintendo Power magazineEach gray cartridge has a unique number making the cartridge easier to track and difficult to counterfeit. However, the gold cartridges have no unique identification numbers and are difficult to track and authenticate.

The Nintendo World Championships 1990 game cartridge is considered to be the most valuable NES cartridge released and one of the rarest (second only to Stadium Events). Because fewer gold cartridges were manufactured, they are rarer and demand a higher price than the gray cartridges. Those special cartridges have been described as the “holy grail” of console game collecting.

And here we go, an amazing piece of grey plastic valuable around $10.000!

As we can understand from the video, this specific gray cartridge is now in Italy (seems they like to collect a lot in there) in the hands of a Gamescollection.it community member and was won by Shannon Webster in the Denver NWC back in 1990.

The world needs this indie riot simulator!

“As the economical crisis advances, the discontent of an entire population cannot help but outburst in Riots, where the sounds of many voices get heard at once.”

This is how Leonard Menchiari, former Editor/Cinematographer at Valve, commences his speech on the Indiegogo project. Indeed, RIOT is a turmoil simulator for PC, Mac, iOS, Android and OUYA seeking funding on the famous indie kickstarter-like site. The game will allow you to play as both manifestant and cop, to understand the riot though different points of view.

It seems like the guys behind the project are taking the mission very seriously declaring:

“The funding for the game will enable the developers to travel, document and experience live riots going on in Italy, Greece, Egypt and possibly many other places around the world (next to developing the game, buying software and hardware for development and testing).
Only comments and reports from the people joining the conflicts will be taken into consideration, attempting to depict both sides of the fight without bias, only objectivity and facts. We need you to spread the voice on an important issue through the medium of videogames. Stop listening to the lies of the media, shut down the television and get yourself in the line, to fight for your freedom of speech.

So, this is not just an entertaining light-heart game, but it comes with more deep and serious meanings. Check out the trailer

It looks like a very interesting project, and if you agree with us help this guys make it real on their Indiegogo page (the project is already funded, but you know, every penny counts) and/or voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.

Keep yourselft updated on their official website.

“After a life spent collecting video games I decide to sell off my entire collection”

This is how the italian seller opened his listing on ebay. He continued saying that he just has too much things and the space to store them is finished long ago…realizing that if he wants to play at least half of his games, he should lives two or three entire human life…

This games collection is incredibly huge, and just to give an idea, he spent the last two months of his life taking pictures and making lists, working about eight hours a day just in order to make an inventory and to figure out what he has, and this is INSANE!

It counts something like 6850 games, 330 consoles, 220 controllers and 185 various accessories and peripherals from which we can recognize basically everything is worthwhile in video games history! From ultra-rare and ultra-limited edition Biohazard Dreamcasts to impossibly expensive NEO GEO AES games, from the incredibly hard-to-find Hotel FamicomBox to never-seen 80s Game & Watches.

Enough nostalgia and collector rage? Good, let’s talk about money…do you have some savings? Or are you planning to sell your house or your 1st born? Because this collection will cost you $550.000 (yes, fivehundredfiftythousand freaking dollars), plus some unknown-but-for-sure-hugely-expensive delivery cost if you don’t live in Italy (yup, hard times in Italy right now).

If you’re interested (or just curious) you can check the complete game list here, the image library of all the items here and the actual ebay listing here.

At the time of writing the collection has received no bids.

**UPDATE (8 Feb 2013)**

Bidding has ended on this listing. The seller has relisted the items here.

**UPDATE (9 Feb 2013)**

We finally got a bidder for $550k! (but maybe it’s just a joke)
