Today Ovosonico, an italian independent game studio founded last year by Massimo Guarini, specialized in IP Creation by designing and developing original, unconventional and artistically crafted video games characterized by a strong sense of authorship, signed a partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe. SCE WWSE will be working together with Ovosonico on a new (not-yet-revealed) intellectual property.

These are words from Massimo Guarini, founder and CEO at Ovosonico, known to be a former Suda51’s Grasshopper Manifacture director:

“There has never been a better time to contribute to the growth of the video games industry. Ovosonico aims to challenge convention, to push the boundaries further and expand our medium by delivering innovative, emotionally engaging games that deeply resonate with people.
SCE Worldwide Studios Europe understands our vision and we are thrilled to partner with them. We strongly feel that they are the perfect partner for us.”

On the counterpart, Michael Denny, Senior Vice President at Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe, said:

“We’re incredibly excited to be working with such an innovative new studio as Ovosonico. It is through working with creative minds such as Massimo Guarini that ensures that the best exclusive games are only available on PlayStation and we firmly believe that this relationship will result in something special. This is the first studio we have worked with in Italy and due to the growing talent in this country; we believe the first of many.”

We are really excited about this announcement, because Guarini worked on Grasshopper Manifacture’s Shadows of the Damned as director, and we know that Suda always chooses the people to work with very wisely. By the way, we’re not very surprised about this partnership…because we had some sort of feeling when last February we saw this tweet:

So, can we expect a new IP on the upcoming PlayStation 4? We’ll see, stay tuned.

***UPDATE March 21 2013***

Sony UK teased a strange mechanic egg that seems to be the CG version of Ovosonico logo.

(Still no info about the topic for the NA release from Xseed)

Xseed Games is bringing five new Japanese titles outside Japan in 2013

31 Jan

Who are these guys and why we should thank them?

Well, Xseed Games is a small (and when I say small, I mean really small, like 9 people) video games publisher and distributor based in Torrance, California; and we should thank them because their only purpose is to bring weird, strange and beautiful Japanese games to the North American market (and eventually let them know to European publishers).

Xseed Games HQ. You just met half of the employees.

Xseed Games HQ. You just met half of the employees.

We really appreciate them (and everybody should do), because unlike the bigger guys (someone said Activision, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft?) they don’t really care about money. They’re happy to just focus on eccentric (and mostly weird, but always amazing) Japanese games, from dating simulations to j-RPGs.

You should thank them for being able to play titles such as KORG DS-10 (NDS, 2008), Ys Seven (PSP, 2010) or The Last Story (2012, Wii) localized in your language. But this is not all. In a press release this morning, Xseed Games announced that it’s bringing five new games outside Japan: Killer Is Dead (yep, new game from Suda51)(X360 / PS3, Summer 2013), Rune Factory 4 (3SD, Summer 2013), Valhalla Knights 3 (PSVita, Fall 2013), Ys Celceta (PSVita, Fall 2013), and Ys I & II Chronicles (Steam, February 2013).

We leave you with trailers about those new upcoming games. Enjoy, and be respectful to Xseed.

This last one about Ys I & II is from the PSP version, because there’s not Steam version trailer out there.
