Ok guys, calm down! Lately we’ve seen a super boost in NWC1990 cartridges sales, but we usually talk about Grey ones, that are extremely rare (and expensive), but not as the Gold ones.
Last year we reported about another Nintendo World Championship 1990 grey cartridge found by some Italian collector. We also said the the nice piece of plastic is usually worth around £10k. But here we got a new record, since a long-date collector from North Carolina is selling his one on eBay, and the auction already reached $90k!!
So, let’s recap a bit. Firstly a former SOJ (see: SEGA of Japan) employee revealed a very old console prototype, called SEGA Pluto, that basically is just a Saturn with internet connection, but there are no other known unites around, so we assume it’s pretty rare. Than another guy (pictured above), after seeing all the news about the Pluto, realized that he got one in his collection (what a lucky guy!). So only two of them in the entire world, still pretty rare.
This second chap then decided to put his long-forgotten-fresh-discovered SEGA Pluto prototype up on a eBay auction, but the auction finished at $15.5k with reserve price not met. Such a shame! Is that possible that the guy is so greedy not to accept more than $15k for an old console?
SEGA Nerds guys reached Roger Vega (this is the name of the young man) to ask some question about the auction. So here we go!
We’ve already told you about the SEGA Pluto console dropped on a eBay auction few days ago. Well, now the auction is over, but the prototype stills unsold.
We saw this coming. The seller was quite greedy to put such an high reserve price, that remains unknown, but for sure is more than $15.5k, that was the final bid reached by the auction.
Will the seller try again? We really think so…stay tuned!
Do you remember the huge revelation about the two super-secret SEGA Pluto prototype consoles we told you a while ago? Good, because one of them is currently on eBay.
Yep, that was predictable. In the end it’s just two-of-a-kind so we’re not really surprised about that (saw that, at least, one of the owner didn’t even know what the hell it was).
The thing that wasn’t predictable is that the auction has already reached more than $8000 and it’s still 3 days to go. Yes, that’s an huge amount of money! But don’t get too excited, because the actual eBay auction says that the reserve price has not been met yet (you, greedy bastard!). For now we can just wait, we’ll keep you posted!
“After a life spent collecting video games I decide to sell off my entire collection”
This is how the italian seller opened his listing on ebay. He continued saying that he just has too much things and the space to store them is finished long ago…realizing that if he wants to play at least half of his games, he should lives two or three entire human life…
This games collection is incredibly huge, and just to give an idea, he spent the last two months of his life taking pictures and making lists, working about eight hours a day just in order to make an inventory and to figure out what he has, and this is INSANE!
It counts something like 6850 games, 330 consoles, 220 controllers and 185 various accessories and peripherals from which we can recognize basically everything is worthwhile in video games history! From ultra-rare and ultra-limited edition Biohazard Dreamcasts to impossibly expensive NEO GEO AES games, from the incredibly hard-to-find Hotel FamicomBox to never-seen 80s Game & Watches.
Enough nostalgia and collector rage? Good, let’s talk about money…do you have some savings? Or are you planning to sell your house or your 1st born? Because this collection will cost you $550.000 (yes, fivehundredfiftythousand freaking dollars), plus some unknown-but-for-sure-hugely-expensive delivery cost if you don’t live in Italy (yup, hard times in Italy right now).
At the time of writing the collection has received no bids.
**UPDATE (8 Feb 2013)**
Bidding has ended on this listing. The seller has relisted the items here.
**UPDATE (9 Feb 2013)**
We finally got a bidder for $550k! (but maybe it’s just a joke)
**UPDATE (12 Feb 2013)**
The listing has been removed from ebay. Some private buyer? We’ll never know…
