Resident Evil Revelations’ launch event in London will feature a blood-filled swimming pool

14 May

resident evil revelations

You already know that Capcom marketing guys are pretty insane (let’s say completely bonkers). We know it from the previous event for the launch of Resident Evil 6 that featured a fake (but incredibly real-looking) human meat market (pictured below).

resident evil 6 human meat market

But that wasn’t enough…so, what about a blood-filled swimming pool with torso floats, intestines as lane markers, and all kinds of nasty and rotten objects floating in the water including bloody bandages, eyeballs, tendrils and blood clots? Disgusting? Good, because that’s exactly what is going to happen in London next weekend, at the official RE: Revelations launch event.

Capcom is promising big time to all the Resident Evil event attendants, warning fans to expect a ”shocking, gory and an incredibly disturbing experience – the perfect way to show that survival horror is back with a bang for Resident Evil Revelations”.

Interested? Better be quick because only 200 free tickets will be available here on May 20th (from 9.00am). While waiting to can kill some time zombies with the Resident Evil Revelation demo, already available on Xbox 360 and Wii U (PlayStation 3 owners have to wait till tomorrow)

If you were expecting a sequel for Okami, we got bad news

13 May

okami merchandise

Last month, from the official Okami Twitter account, Capcom said they got some upcoming big news about the series. All the teasing was made in occasion of the Japanese Golden Week which is a period of multiple consecutive holidays in Japan. Here’s the tweet:

Yes, we know that you probably can’t speak Japanese, so here’s a translation:

“Hello, this is Okami news. Sorry if I’ve been kind of out of touch lately, but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations.”

Obviously everyone got super excited, expecting some big announcement about, let’s say, Okami 2.

No way…today Capcom announced some Okami merchandise, and just for the Japanese market.

This is the worst way to start a new week.

Having a female protagonist causes publishers to lose interest in the game

19 Mar

nilin remember me

Just yesterday, we told you about the lack of female main characters in video games and how people try to fix the problem hacking some evergreen classics, like Donkey Kong and The Legend Of Zelda.

Today we report to you the words of Remember Me‘s creative director Jean-Max Morris, interviewed by Sophie Prell from Penny Arcade. We remember you that the upcoming cyberpunk game from Capcom features a female character, Nilin, as protagonist.

Here’s Morris talking about the choice to have a woman as main character:

It was not a decision. It was something that just felt right from the beginning. It’s one of those things that we never looked at from a pure, cold marketing perspective because that would have endangered the consistency of the whole game.

We had some that said, “Well, we don’t want to publish it because that’s not going to succeed. You can’t have a female character in games. It has to be a male character, simple as that”.

We wanted to be able to tease on Nilin’s private life, and that means for instance, at one point, we wanted a scene where she was kissing a guy. We had people tell us, “You can’t make a dude like the player kiss another dude in the game, that’s going to feel awkward”.

I’m like, if you think like that, there’s no way the medium’s going to mature. There’s a level of immersion that you need to be at, but it’s not like your sexual orientation is being questioned by playing a game. I don’t know, that’s extremely weird to me.

The fact is that we’re doing a cyberpunk game, and there are cyberpunk games out there that are about physical augmentation and transhumanism, and those are very male worlds in a way. The world we were building was much more about emotion, intimacy, identity, and the way technology would intersect those. It just felt like the other side of the coin, the yin and the yang, and it just made sense to us that it would be a female character.

You can identify with people of the other gender in movies, why could you not in games? The fact that our core target is males 15-25 is not an excuse. We need to be able to create, and respect the audience enough to believe that they can be smart enough to identify with that type of character.

We totally agree with Morris, but just hearing that some publishers lost their interest in the game only because of a female protagonist makes us very sad, and quite hopeless. We’re sure that those shortminded people will regret it once the game will be out.

Here’s your über zombie apocalypse! Served by Capcom and Valve

15 Mar

resident evil 6 x left 4 dead 2

Zombie fan? Good, because Capcom and Valve teamed up for a free Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 Crossover.

But what is about? Here’s the press release:

Capcom and Valve are pleased to announce the Resident Evil® 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 project. This crossover project between two of the interactive entertainment industry’s most respected publishers will see characters from Left 4 Dead™ 2 featured exclusively in the forthcoming PC version of Resident Evil® 6, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will invade the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2. All content will be made available completely free for fans of either game to access and play.

Owners of Resident Evil 6 PC will be able to select one of four survivors from Left 4 Dead 2’s iconic cast – Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle – when playing PC exclusive mode, The Mercenaries No Mercy. Each character will have a special customized weapon load-out created just for use in Resident Evil 6. In addition to the four survivors, two of the infamous Special Infected zombies from the Left 4 Dead franchise – the Witch and Mini Tank – will also make a cameo appearance in this mode, relentlessly attacking players regardless of whether a character from Left 4 Dead 2 or Resident Evil 6 is chosen. This new and exclusive content will automatically be downloaded in the background to all owners of the PC version of Resident Evil 6 from April 5.

Making the leap to the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be some of Resident Evil 6’s most fearsome enemies – Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman. All three characters were brought to life in Left 4 Dead 2 by Valve’s renowned developers using its Steam Workshop tools. Owners of the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be able to face a new deadly challenge when Resident Evil 6 characters infect Valve’s classic zombie title this spring.

Commenting on the crossover project, Chet Faliszek from Valve stated: “We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine L4D2 and RE6, we jumped at it.”

Resident Evil 6 Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi added: “The Resident Evil 6 team really enjoyed working on this crossover, and we’re confident that our fans will have a great time with it too! We hope you enjoy this unique content.”

And here’s the dev diary from Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.

We were hoping for something way more exciting, but still, this is kinda cool anyway. But what about all the console players? Both games are either on PC and consoles!

Not again! Poor 3DS…

1 Mar

Yes, it happened AGAIN! Another spelling mistake on a 3DS game cover. This time is from the Northamerican version of Nartuo Naruto: Powerful Shippuden

This is what Namco Bandai said regarding this awkward misprinting:

“NAMCO BANDAI is aware of the labeling error for Naruto Powerful Shippuden. The spelling will be corrected for additional pressings of the game and we are currently working on an online solution to provide a printable replacement label for all our customers who would like to replace their box covers.”

But, why we said again? Because all this already happened to another 3DS game one year ago: Resident Evil: Revelaitons Revelations!

Remember Me release date revealed

27 Feb

Earlier today Capcom released a brand new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi game Remember Me.

Along with the trailer, the Japanese software house revealed also the release dates for both North America and Europe. The game will hit the US territory on June 4 and the European countries on June 7 (yep, 2013).

At least something good was shown at PlayStation2013 event

22 Feb

And no, we’re not talking about the new PlayStation 4

Why? Because we didn’t actually see the console, because it has no backward compatibility, because the Dual Shock 4 it’s the same fucking not-comfortable controller since the PS1 (with a very useful touch-whatever-it-is) or just because who really cares about consoles? We want games!

And that’s why the PlayStation2013 conference wasn’t bad at all. Indeed, beside some very ugly and/or not impressive games (see: FPS), there were a couple of interesting titles with their relative trailer/teaser.

First of all, the yet E3-2012 presented Watch Dogs from Ubisoft (yep, we know, Ubisoft sucks, but damn, this one looks good!).

The second notable game is from Capcom, it’s called Deep Down, but it’s just a working title. Usually we don’t give a shit about the graphic, but this one is stunning.

Resident Evil 1.5 Gameplay | Elza Walker

19 Feb

After our post about the release of an early build of Resident Evil 1.5 and the previous video about the Leon campaign, here we go with a second one! This time we tried the Elza Walker campaign. We use the word tried instead of played because…oh well…watch the video.
