Independently-developed games are taking the world by storm. Whether on mobile devices, PC, or console, games created by smaller development teams are capturing as much attention as the giant, triple-A games with multi-million dollar budgets. What independent developers may lack in size or resources they make up for in innovation and inspiration. The Western independent gaming scene has been percolating for years, but so too has Japanese independent development been moving steadily towards the future.
BIT.SUMMIT 2013 was the first annual Japanese independent game developer and media summit, held a couple of weeks ago in Kyoto, Japan, with the mission of help the indie Japanese video game developer get his work in front of a global audience. But also to help the Western markets learn about, anticipate, and appreciate Japan’s home-grown video games.
So, how did it went? It’s safe to say it was a massive success! So let’s enjoy an highlight reel video, featuring most of the games revealed at the event.
We really hope this was just the first event of many more!
