A very cool t-shirt and official apologies from Capcom after cancelling the Blood Swimming Pool event

31 May

In the beginning we were utterly excited for the Blood Swimming Pool Event organized by Capcom to celebrate, with few lucky people, the launch of Resident Evil Revelations on home consoles.

Then, a few days later, we got a bit of disappointment by the cancelling of the event itself due to the tragic happenings of Woolwich, even because we achieved to get some tickets to the event.

But you know, Capcom is good, and the PR team decided to send to all the ticket-holders some free stuff, trying to beg our forgiveness. Today we got the parcel in our mail box, here’s what was inside.

Yep, it’s not super cool merchandise, but we still appreciate the apologies. This is how you behave if you want to be one of the top rated software houses in the world (no EA, you’re not included in the list). But that’s not all, the main gift is shown below.

Double Fine is back and they’re asking your help to make Massive Chalice real

30 May

massive chalice double fine kickstarter

Yep, Double Fine is back with a new Kickstarter project! This time is about turn-based tactics and feudal fantasy, in the brand new RPG called Massive Chalice.

The guys at Double Fine stated that the game, if backed, will be inspired by classic tactical strategy games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, as well as Game of Thrones’ array of noble families. With these influences in mind they promise to create an epic, replayable turn-based tactics game where you train generations of heroes to repel a demonic invasion.

Any more detail? Massive Chalice is a single player turn-based tactics game within a multi-generational strategy campaign built for replayability.

As an immortal King or Queen, you must unite your kingdom under a powerful dynasty, eliminate the demonic threat, and reforge the so-called Massive Chalice!

The game is structured into two main layers: strategy and tactics. In the strategy layer, you oversee your kingdom, arrange royal marriages, conduct research, and make the far-reaching decisions that will determine the fate of your legacy. In the tactics layer, you fight brutal turn-based battles to defend your kingdom using small squads of customizable heroes.

Permadeath is inevitable: your heroes will grow, age, and eventually die. You’ll have to choose between keeping your favorite heroes on the battlefield or retiring them from combat to foster a new generation of warriors.

Each playthrough begins with a random assortment of male and female heroes from various bloodlines, guaranteeing that each game is unique. Your knowledge and skill will increase over multiple playthroughs, but the details of every game will change based on your decisions and the whims of fate.

The Kickstarter campaign has started today, it will last for 28 more days, and the final goal is $725k (as we’re writing this, they’ve raised more than $30k so far). As usual, if you feel positive about the project, here’s the Kickstarter page to throw your money at!

What is SEGA Spectrum?

28 May

sega spectrum e3

The image above was posted by a NeoGAF user a while ago, but still nobody has a clue on what this mysterious SEGA Spectrum is.

For those who don’t speak Japanese, the text says “A new world of entertainment”, but it could be referred to everything. Starting with a long waited return of SEGA in the hardware market with a brand new console (which is highly unlikely) to some sort of digital platform for releasing arcade titles directly to the cabinet’s boards (similar to the one from Taito).

Everything is possible, and we’ll know the truth soon enough as the date points to June 6th, exactly during this year’s E3.

Capcom cancels the Blood Swimming Pool event for the launch of Resident Evil Revelations

23 May

resident evil revelations

We were utterly excited for the upcoming Capcom‘s event of this weekend, a huge blood-filled swimming pool party to celebrate the launch of Resident Evil Revelations for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U.

Unfortunately Capcom announced today that the bloody event has been cancelled due to the tragic events of yesterday, here in London.

Here’s the email send by a spokesman of Capcom to all the ticket owners (including us):

“Due to the tragic incident in Woolwich yesterday, Capcom has decided to cancel all dates of the Blood Swimming Pool event.

Thank you for your understanding.”

It’s a real shame, because the event sounded quite good, but we also understand the concerns of Capcom, hosting such gory party (they had promised floating body parts in the pool) right after a real-life tragedy. So, it’s kinda fine. We just hope the marketing section will find something else to serve some fandriven enjoyment.

If you don’t know what happened yesterday in Woolwich check the news, we’re just a video games blog.

Forza Motorsport 5 announcement trailer

21 May

Forza Motorsport 5 Xbox One

You may have heard something about the new Xbox One presented today by Microsoft. We’re quite sure you have. Anyway, at Microsoft Studios they thought that for keep up with the latest announcement of Gran Turismo 6 (that is set to be released on PlayStation 3), they needed to show off a bit. So Forza Motorsport 5 was the reply, and it looks astonishing!

Enjoy the very first announcement trailer, revealed during today’s event.

Well, not yet satisfied? Let’s carry on with some really beautiful screenshots!

Now, we’re not sure (and nobody said anything about it) if those pics are in-game footage or just pre-rendered screens, but if Forza Motorsport 5 will look like this, oh well, farewell GT6…

Anyway, it will be one of the first things we’ll find out about the new Xbox One, as Forza Motorsport 5 will be available at launch.

Meet Xbox One

21 May

xbox one

Yep, this is it! The brand new Microsoft game console, the XBOX ONE (nice name, no really). And below you can admire its brand new shaped controller.

xbox one controller

Here some more details:

• 8 gigs of RAM

• USB 3.0

• Wi-Fi Direct

Blu-Ray disc drive (wondering how much is Sony’s bill for this)

• 64-bit architecture

Wired (that tried the new Xbox) reported that Xbox One will NOT require an always-online internet connection, but due to an installation of every game on the HDD and a registration on the Xbox site required, Microsoft confirmed with that while installations to other hard drives are allowed, users will need to pay an unspecified fee to do so. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?? So I need to pay even if I borrow a game from my friend. Thanks.

The Xbox One won’t play any existing Xbox 360 games, said Microsoft’s Marc Whitten in an interview with The Verge.

“The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn’t really work from that perspective.”

Microsoft’s Harvey Eagle told IGN another super good news (see: irony). In fact seems like your Kinect will need to be connected in order for the Xbox One to function:

“Kinect does require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases, yes.”

Xbox One will hit the stores this fall, but still no release date.

Sony (kinda) teases the new PlayStation 4 hardware

20 May

ps4 playstation 4

It’s safe to say that the new PlayStation 4 is really good looking. Maybe…if only we could actually see it!

The brand new console from Sony, pictured above, has been teased by the Japanese company in a not-so-clear video uploaded earlier today.

With the promise that the PS4 will be available to admire (and maybe try) at the next E3, here’s the video. Try to spot some shapes, if you can…

Yakuza 1&2 HD coming to Wii U in Japan

18 May

yakuza 1 & 2 HD wii U

After the recent news about the exclusive collaboration between SEGA and Nintendo for the Sonic franchise, seems like the partnership is quite beyond that. Indeed we also know that Yakuza 1&2 HD is making its way to the Wii U in Japan next August. Already released to PS3, the collection will be hitting the Wii U in August, and will take advantage of the Wii U GamePad via in-game maps and GamePad only play.

For now still no news about a western release of the collection, but since the one for PlayStation 3 is a Japan-only thing (and we’re still waiting for Yakuza 5) it probably won’t make it overseas. But you never know, stay tuned!

18 May

sega nintendo partnership sonic

The war is officially over! Well, it’s been over for years actually, but it’s a today’s news that SEGA and Nintendo entered an exclusive partnership for the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. This new agreement will make Nintendo consoles the number one destination for Sonic gaming over the next three titles. But here’s the official press release by SEGA:

SEGA® of America Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced details of an exclusive partnership with Nintendo of America Inc. and Nintendo of Europe GmbH for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The new agreement will make Nintendo consoles the number one destination for Sonic gaming over the next three titles. The first two titles of the deal were announced today via Nintendo Direct, and details of the third Sonic title will be revealed at a later date.

“Sonic the Hedgehog has performed incredibly well on Nintendo platforms and this exclusive partnership is a natural fit for the next evolution of Sonic games” commented Jurgen Post COO SEGA Europe Ltd.  “The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are ideal platforms to showcase Sonic and we are looking forward to working with Nintendo on these three exciting adventures.”

Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers.  Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 75 million videogames and smartphone apps sold worldwide. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation.

Wondering what are the first two Sonic titles exclusive for Nintendo consoles? Here we go! Actually is just one title, it’s called Sonic Lost World, and will be released on both Wii U and 3DS on a tba date.
