Enjoy this gameplay video for the first level of Sturmwind

26 Apr

Finally Sturmwind for the SEGA Dreamcast is out, you know it, also because we covered the thing quite a lot, for example with our exclusive preview.

If you pre-ordered it (like almost 3 years ago), your long-waited copy should be on some truck or plane, travelling to your post box. But, as long we still got our press copy, we decided to record some gameplay video; and the one above is from the very first level of the game, played in hard. Enjoy.

Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine out now

24 Apr

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine

Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine is a game about heists.  Assemble a crack team of thieves and execute the perfect crime.

The game, developed by indie game studio Pocketwatch Games, won the 2010 IGF Grand Prize as well as the award for Excellence in Design after only 15 weeks of work by one developer, Andy Schatz. Since then the team has grown and the game has been fleshed out on a much grander scale, with online multiplayer, multiple campaigns, a slick new art style, and tons of new playable characters, enemies, weapons, and traps.

The game is available from today on Steam, and an XBLA version has been announced for an any time soon release. In the meanwhile catch the official trailer.

Shinji Mikami: There aren’t any real survival horror games in the world right now

23 Apr

shinji mikami the evil within resident evil horror survival

Hard words said by the father of the survival horror genre Shinji Mikami (you know, the creator of the original Resident Evil saga), that after officially announcing his new project, The Evil Within, published by Bethesda, had a little talk with IGN guys. Here’s what he said:

“For me, personally, why I came back to survival horror is that survival horror as a genre is becoming all action now. There aren’t any real survival horror games in the world right now. That is the biggest motivation for me. Having the player pick up the controller and being genuinely able to say ‘Wow, I haven’t played a game this scary in ages!’, that is what we are after. That is the main thing we are focused on”

We really hope that Mikami will deliver us a splendid old-school survival horror, but till 2014 we can just wait and cross our fingers!

The woman who bought NES’ Stadium Event for $7.99 is selling it

22 Apr

nes stadium events rare

Do you remember the woman that last week found and bought an ultra-rare copy of Stadium Events for just $7.99? Well, obviously she’s selling it, for a $12k!

The list, hosted on GameGravel, says:

“This is it! This is the one you have been waiting for. NES Stadium Events CIB in excellent condition. This item is complete with box, cartridge, black case, manual, and even the original styrofoam in the bottom of the box. Any condition questions should be resolved with the photos provided. We have tried to take as many photos as possible to give an accurate description of the game and all aspects of the packaging.”

Unfortunately, the auction is open for US residents only, so fuck you if you live elsewhere! But at least you can check it out if you’re curious about the final price.

Twin Galaxies now accepting new scores submissions

22 Apr

twin galaxies scores video games

Twin Galaxies is an organization that tracks video game world records. It operates the Twin Galaxies website and publishes the Twin Galaxies’ Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records. The Guinness World Records – Gamers Edition is released every year in conjunction with Twin Galaxies, who Guinness World Records considers to be the official supplier of verified world video games records to the annual volume.

Exchanging hands in the Autumn of 2012, to new owners Jourdan Adler and Richie Knucklez, Twin Galaxies came with a name, a legacy and, unfortunately, a damaged yet not completely irretrievable database. Believing gamers deserved an updated system and quicker response time on verification, the difficult decision was made to abandon the old system and recreate Twin Galaxies anew no matter how long it took. So, finally submission procedures have been re-opened, and according to the new owners simplified. But also a new not-so-welcome fee structure has been instituted -let’s say- to ensure prompt service and efficient handling  of scores submitted for adjudication.

So what does it cost now to submit a score to Twin Galaxies? Well, it’s not that cheap…

$25.00 – One (1) score submission or up to Two (2) hours of recording
$60.00 – Three (3) score submission or up to Six (6) hours of recording
$75.00 – Five (5) score submission or up to Twelve (12) hours of recording

Meet Pluto, the prototype SEGA console that never saw the light of day

19 Apr

sega pluto prototype

We are all fascinated by prototype and obscure dev kit from the past, especially when they come from the somehow mysterious SEGA hardware dev department (that obviously is no more).

So you probably already hear about this kind of stuff, like, for example the SEGA Neptune, but we’re quite sure that the SEGA Pluto is something new for most of you (and also for us).

A couple of days ago, a SEGA ex-employee shared with the world the first pictures about a piece of hardware that never saw the light of day, nothing really out of this world, but basically an internet enabled Saturn, codename: Pluto.

Here’s what the owner said about how he got the prototype:

“Sega is a company with a history of turmoil. Employee turnover is a sad theme, and the Sonic Reaper (as we call him) strikes all too frequently. As such, the past gets forgotten quickly — treasures from the previous generation are quickly cast aside, as a new regime tries to make a name for themselves (or justify their existence). As such, some of said treasures get left on laid-off-peoples’ desks. And in a beautiful twist of fate, this beauty ended up finding its way to my desk, and then in a box with the rest of my stuff when I left Sega.”

The sticker under the console says “PLUTO-02” so this means that should be even a prototype 01, somewhere, maybe. And there is indeed!

After the pics went online, the owner of the other known Pluto showed up with this video.

Did you hear? This Pluto is going to find its way to ebay! Stay tuned.
